KickSTART your Career ...........with our new training and work experience programme in Cork.


At the end of this free programme, you will be fully trained, have internationally recognised industry certifications, gain excellent work experience in VMware, and be ready for a range of job opportunities in the technology sector. 

We are hosting an open information evening for those who would like to be apply for the KickSTART programme.

On the evening we will:

  • explain how the KickSTART initiative works
  • give you an opportunity to meet the programme team
  • explain the work experience in VMware
  • familiarise you with the Software Skillnet
  • hear from the experience of previous jobseekers on our programmes
  • explain the application and selection process


90% of previous participants on our Software Skillnet programmes have gained employment within one month of completion. 


KickSTART is an opportunity to join over 250 past participants who are now technical support engineers, IT analysts, project managers, solutions engineers, IT sales associates and systems operations engineers.

Who is the programme aimed at?

This programme is aimed at graduates and other jobseekers looking for great career opportunities in the tech sector.


We love diversity and harnessing a wide range of talent, so if you have a passion for the technology sector, KickSTART will give you the training, experience and opportunity you have been looking for.

KickSTART is a free programme for anyone who is unemployed. Its also a great start for IT and related graduates looking for an exciting career path. 


What does the programme involve?

The programme, which is delivered by industry experts, will provide you with 6 weeks fast-track training in key skills.  This will include technical training in Linux, Windows Server, VMware vSphere ICM, CompTIA Network+ and Information Storage.

During the programme you will also gain 6 weeks of work experience in VMware, will allow you to apply the new skills in a real job environment.

On-the-job mentoring will support and enhance your learning.

Workshops on CV, social media and interview skills will also hone your recruitment potential.

At the end of the programme you will have achieved the following internationally recognised certifications:

  • VCP - VMware Certificate Professional (VCP 6)
  • CompTIA Network+
  • ISM - Information Storage Management (EMC)


Selection Criteria

Our preferred candidates would meet the selection criteria below. However as this programme provides comprehensive training, we would encourage all those interested to apply.



We are looking for people who have:

Personal Attributes

    • Good communications skills 
    • An ability to be self-motivated.
    • A passion for the technology sector

Education and Training

  • Candidates with an IT-related Degree; OR other IT qualification
  • Candidates with prior experience as an IT professional, working with hardware or software in the technology sector
  • Previous training, education or experience in IT environments would be beneficial


  • Training and work experience will take place in VMware, Ballincollig, Cork

Prior Experience

  • You should be a college graduate with a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Previous working knowledge in any of the following areas is useful but not essential: Linux, Microsoft (Windows Server Families 2008 or 2003, Windows Desktop 7, and/or XP), plus x86 platforms, devices, and networking
  • Technical Certifications (MCSE, CCNA, Linux Certifications etc.) would be advantageous.
